Caitlin Clarks popularity has reached a new level.

Its no longer noteworthy simply because she delivers another massive television audience. Now, major networks are simultaneously claiming that they carried the most-watched WNBA game of the season. Of course, both games included Clark and the Indiana Fever.

CBS Sports announced Tuesday that the July 18 game between the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty averaged 2.579 million viewers and peaked at just over 3 million.

The network called it the most-watched WNBA game on any network this season and the second-most-watched WNBA game on any network since 2000.

Theres just one issue.

NBC made essentially the same announcement six days earlier.

NBC said the Fevers July 12 game against the Las Vegas Aces averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 2.64 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. The network called it the most-watched WNBA game of the 2026 season and the second-most-watched WNBA regular-season game since 2000.

So, which network actually carried the biggest WNBA game of the year?

Potentially both.

The difference comes down to how the audiences were measured and how the networks worded their respective claims.

CBSs 2.579 million figure was based on Nielsen Big Data + Panel measurement. NBCs 2.64 million figure was a combined Total Audience Delivery across NBC and Peacock, incorporating Nielsens television data and digital viewing measured by Adobe Analytics.

In other words, CBS is claiming the most-watched WNBA game on an individual television network. NBC is claiming the largest combined audience across its broadcast and streaming platforms.

The NBC total topped the CBS number by only 61,000 viewers, a difference of approximately 2.4%. But because Peacock viewers were included in NBCs figure, the two numbers arent exactly apples-to-apples.

Sports Media Watch reported the NBC linear audience at 2.46 million, with the rest of the Total Audience Delivery coming from streaming measured by Adobe Analytics.

Neither network is necessarily wrong. They are measuring slightly different things and promoting the version that allows each to claim the top spot.

Thats what network PR departments do.

But the dueling claims reveal something far more important than which company gets to put “most-watched” on a graphic.

Clark and the Fever produced two audiences exceeding 2.5 million viewers in six days, on two different networks, against two different opponents, and on two different days of the week.

The July 12 Fever-Aces game, which was played on a Sunday, averaged 2.64 million viewers and peaked at 2.8 million, despite tipping off at 9 p.m. ET and ending after 11 p.m. Indiana won the game, 109-75.

Six days later, Fever-Liberty averaged 2.579 million and drew more than three million viewers at its peak on a Saturday night.

CBS now owns the two largest reported Nielsen-measured single-network WNBA audiences of the season. The previous leader was the June 6 matchup between the same two teams, which averaged 2.557 million viewers.

The rematch didnt merely approach that audience. It surpassed it. That also means that Clark might have helped create another must-see WNBA rivalry. Her games against Angel Reese-led teams have always drawn well, but now it appears that fans like to watch her face the New York Liberty, too.

For the record, the only WNBA regular-season game to draw a larger audience since 2000 was the Feve
